West Nile Virus confirmed in Knox County
Knox County public health officials are confirming Mosquitos have tested positive for the West Nile Virus.
Mosquito samples were collected within Ontario Township, at the edge of Oneida. These are the first positive samples in Knox County this year. Public Health Administrator for the Knox County Health Department, Heidi Britton says "it is common for the Health Department to identify West Nile Virus in mosquitoes in Knox County."

Individuals can reduce the risk of West Nile Illness by avoiding being outdoors when mosquitoes are most active, especially between dusk and dawn. Also make sure when you are outdoors, wear shoes and socks, long pants and a long sleeve shirt and apply insect repellent. West Nile Virus is transmitted through the bite of a mosquito that has picked up the virus by feeding on an infected bird. At this time, the Illinois Department of Public Health is reporting no human cases of the West Nile Illness.
