Meet the County Fair Queen
A young woman from Athens, IL, will preside over this year's Illinois State Fair. The reigning Miss Illinois County Fair Queen says the competition she won is more of a scholarship program than a beauty contest.

"Women are making leaps and bounds in our society today, with a woman almost being elected president," says Haley Freeman. She says the pageant "provides young women with the opportunity to build resumes, gain public speaking skills, life skills -- that can only help young women." She says she was neither the thinnest nor prettiest girl of the 66 competitors. She says she is the best at promoting agriculture and the fair.

Freeman is a 2008 graduate of Athens High School and will be a junior at Bradley University in Peoria, with a double major in health science/physical therapy and psychology.
