State Offers Help to Flood Victims
CHICAGO (AP) -- The Illinois Department of Insurance is offering one-on-one counseling and other resources to residents affected by recent flooding.

The department has offices in Springfield and downtown Chicago.

Staff can help consumers navigate the insurance claims process, show them how to properly document storm damage and how to decide whether to make temporary repairs.

Aid is available in Spanish, Polish, Korean, Japanese, Urdu, Hindi and Bengali.

Gov. Pat Quinn has declared at least 12 counties state disaster areas after more than seven inches of rain quickly fell in portions of northern Illinois late last month.

Among the hardest hit areas were western Chicago suburbs, including Westchester and Cicero, which declared themselves disaster areas.
