Smoothies, Coffee Spike McDonald's July Sales
OAK BROOK, Ill. (AP) -- McDonald's says sales of its new beverages like McCafe Real Fruit Smoothies and Frappes in the U.S. and strong international revenue helped a key sales figure rise 7 percent during a hot July.

The world's largest fast-food chain says sales in stores open at least 13 months rose 5.7 percent in the U.S.

The figure rose 5.3 percent in Europe and 10.1 percent in the rest of the world.

The company says value meals also helped U.S. results.

Sales from locations open at last 13 months are a key indicator of a restaurant chain's performance. That's because it excludes growth at stores that open or close during the year.

McDonald's is based in Oak Brook, Ill.
