Lee County Gets Unexpected $513,000 Check
DIXON, Ill. (AP) -- A north-central Illinois zoning official opened a handwritten envelope this week and found a $513,000 surprise inside.

The check to Lee County was to pay for a building permit for 71 wind turbines near Dixon.

Chris Henkel is Lee County's zoning administrator. He tells Sauk Valley Newspapers for a story posted online Friday (http://bit.ly/rihevs ) that he'll issue the permit soon.

The turbine project has been on tap for at least five years and has a new owner, China-based Goldwind.

Company spokesman Colin Mahoney says the project will create 50 to 70 temporary construction jobs. Construction is expected to begin in the next two weeks.

The $513,000 will go into the county's general fund, which covers its day-to-day operations.
