Grant Money to Cover More than First Expected
An increase in grant funds to cover Knoxville High School Expansion comes to school officials as a pleasant surprise.

Initial expansion coverage totaled 61-percent, but Superintendent Steve Wilder says the Capital Development Board is now covering 64-percent of costs.

"The change occured at the Capital Development Board, at this point I am not sure why, it's certainly a benefit to the school district," he says. "What that ultimately means for us is that the local share we will need to come up with will be slightly smaller from what we had orignally thought."

Wilder tells WGIL the bulk of the cost remaining from the proposed 15-million dollar project will come from a one percent county facilities sales tax.

He says the high school must issue bonds that will be paid back through the new sales tax.

The Capital Development Board will next draft an intergovernmental agreement to be passed by the board of education.

Once the agreement is finalized Wilder says the funds will come through to the high school in small amounts.

Wilder says signing the agreement allows for further designs measures to be taken with their architect.

He hopes bids can be finalized for designs of the high school's expansion by next summer.
