Annual Celebration for Former Knox Student?
Plans for an annual festival to celebrate the success of a Galesburg-born and world-renown artist are still on the drawing board.

The Tourism Council's director Judy Guenseth says a final decision does not hinge on those at the Welcome Center.

"It's up to us to facilitate, and that'd be up to the Dorothea Tanning Committee that worked on it last year and to see what direction they want to go," she says. "What we have done though, is opened up a dialogue and a avenue for what we do here and the convention and vistors bureau with that group and share their passion with Dorothea and our expertise and knowledge with what works and doesn't work with the festival."

Guenseth tells WGIL she was surprised with the number of people from all over the country that came to celebrate Tanning in May.

She says Tanning is a fixture with the rich, historical heritage Galesburg represents...A reason for more visitors to flock to the city.

Dorothea Tanning turns 101 on August 25th.
