Mayor to Meet with President Wednesday
Galesburg's top elected official will get the chance to talk with the U.S.' top elected official when he goes to Henry County Wednesday.

Mayor Sal Garza announced at the end of Monday night's Galesburg City Council meeting that he has been invited to meet with President Obama and other political and business leaders privately at either Alpha or Atkinson tomorrow, and Garza says he chose Alpha.

Garza tells WGIL, however, he wants to make sure Obama knows how Galesburg is dealing with the economy, and how it's been able to deal with the current recession.

"We have been more resilent because of that," he says. "I want to share with the President that we should not be considered that community where everything isn't going in the right direction. We have made small gains, but for all intensive purposes we have stopped the hemoraging locally."

But Garza says he believes the city is helping moving towards stabilizing the local economy, but that there's always room for improvement.

The mayor says he expects the meeting to last about 30 minutes. He did not say what other public and private sector leaders would be involved.

We'll have live coverage of President Obama's visit to Alpha Wednesday afternoon beginning at 3:00 on AM 1400 WGIL, and by clicking on "Special Events Audio" at WGIL.com.
