Schock Gets Boehner to Fundraise
(IRN) -- The chairman of the Illinois Republican Party doesn't like it when President Obama holds fundraisers, given the nation's financial and other problems. But it's campaign season for everyone, and Republicans are also ratcheting up support.

U.S. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) will be in Peoria at the end of the month to support U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Peoria) at a $250-per-person fundraiser. Schock doesn't think the Illinois Republican Party, which has called the president the "Fundraiser in Chief," was opposed to the idea of raising money, per se.

"What [Illinois Republican Party Chairman Pat Prady] lambasted them over was the $30,400-per-plate dinner [Obama] had for his birthday," Schock said. "The fact of the matter is, we're all up for election, we're all going to have to raise private funds from citizens who freely give of their resources to get us elected."

The Illinois Campaign for Political Reform says it's appropriate for candidates of any party to raise money during campaign season, but it thinks the campaign season is too long.

"There's a time for campaigning, and a time for governing," said the campaign's deputy director, David Morrison. "It's not appropriate to be speaking about the next election. The focus right now should be on government, and taking government seriously instead of allowing the campaign to overwhelm government."
