Spoon River College Starts New Agriculture Program
CANTON, Ill. (AP) -- Spoon River College is launching a certificate in growing local foods.

Jeff Bash is a farmer and agricultural education instructor at the college in west-central Illinois, and he says the certificate program will be available starting this fall.

The (Peoria) Journal Star reports that Bash is working to develop a sustainable agriculture training center at Spoon River that will include farm plots to demonstrate what can be produced.

Bash says the students will have a built-in market for the produce in the school's cafeteria and staff. He says they're basically trying to grow the school's salad bar.
