Collinsville Man Dies in Conveyor Belt Accident
EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) -- A Collinsville man has died from the injuries he suffered when his legs became caught in a conveyor belt.

Police Sgt. Marion Riddle says the 31-year-old man was working at Swansea Building Products Corp.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that the East St. Louis company makes concrete steps and blocks.

Authorities say emergency crews were called to the business Monday afternoon, and rescuers worked furiously to get to the victim and cut him out of the belt.

The man was caught in a vertical conveyor belt that's used to load sand. The victim's name isn't being released.

Riddle says the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been called to investigate the accident.
