Central Ill. Man Gets 24 Years For Assaulting Girl
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) _ A 52-year-old central Illinois man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison after pleading guilty to repeated sexual assaults of a girl.

The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports that William Bannan of Gridley was sentenced Tuesday in McLean County Court. He pleaded guilty to predatory criminal sexual assault.

Prosecutor Jacob Harlow asked for a 60-year sentence for what he called ``the most vile and deviant'' of crimes.

Court testimony indicated Bannan knew the child and assaulted her a number of times.

But defense attorney James Tusek asked for a 20-year term after a psychiatrist testified that Bannan may have had been abused as a child and had limited intellect.

Gridley is about 25 miles north of Bloomington.
