National Night Out a Welcome Mat to New Residents
For a tenth straight year Rose Gray of the 1300th block on Clark Street organized a block party for National Night Out Tuesday.

Gray says there is more to the night than just developing a neighborhood watch.

"I just think it's nice that we all get together because we've got a couple new neighbors that want to get acquainted, so I just went ahead and had it, even if it is hot," Gray says with a laugh.

The newest neighbors braving the heat on Clark Street were Doug French and family. French finds comfort in knowing the neighbors will lend a watchful eye.

"Having a safe place for my son to grow up is nice, and then knowing that if I'm not around somebody's keeping an eye out for things going on in the neighborhood," French says.

French moved to Galesburg two months ago with his wife and three year old son.

He enjoyed the opportunity to hang out with all of his neighbors for an evening while enjoying what he calls "some good food."
