Mayor Wants Investigation Into City-Owned Power Service
Look out, Ameren: The City of Galesburg may, in a sense, be coming after you.

Mayor Sal Garza says he's investigating the possibility of, somewhere down the road, the city becoming an electricity provider.

Garza says the idea came up because of another city in the area that's doing it quite well.

"The very first one is Princeton. We're going out to visit with these folks, they have an electirc utility that's owned by the municipality. We just wanted to go out there and investigate the structure."

Garza says, quote, "nothing is going to happen overnight," and that he'd like to see some sort of presentation made out of the visits with Princeton and other city-owned power companies.

Garza says he hopes to be able to develop a long-term vision and planning.

He'd also like to possibly include alternative and renewable energies into the mix if they can be done.
