Bark In The Park Takes Dog Owners Back To Roots
Signs of support lined the Lincoln Park roads for critters lost, and critters gained.

The 6th Annual Bark in the Park Saturday gave Galesburg pet owners a reason to celebrate their best friends, but to also remember how they entered their lives.

"Sweetheart was found four years ago this month, when we had that bad storm, she was in the middle of Seminary and Freemont Street," she says. "She had one of those wire leashes around her belly and her neck, carrying one of those things that goes into the ground. Her ears were completely chewed up, one eye was totally bugged out, the other was sunk in. Her claws were into her skin, her nipples since she was starving was about three inches long. Guardian Angels helped me take care of the surgery for her claws."

55 dogs including Dorene Boydstun's Sissy and Sweetheart took part in a dog walk around Galesburg's Lincoln Park Saturday, sponsored by The Guardian Angels Humane Society.

Boydstun says Sweetheart's ears have healed and she has turned into a wonderful Chow. She believes her blindness may be improving in a way she can now see shadows.
