Meth Making Plot Thwarted By Police
A Monmouth man who allegedly purchased meth-making materials was arrested by Galesburg Police Monday night at Walmart.

Police received a phone call at 8:17 PM Monday from a complainant at Walmart stating 20 year old Jeffrey Jones of Monmouth had just purchased items that could be used to make methamphetamine.

Police say they approached Jones as he exited the store. Records indicate Jones was in possession of 2 ounces of crystal form Drain Out, a roll of air tubing, and a utility knife. The police report filed says Jones denied he bought the materials to manufacture meth, telling police the Drain Out was for his toliet and the air tubing for his fish tank.

However police say they also found notebook paper on Jones with a recipe to make meth, along with a shopping list for meth-making materials.

Jones' ride Monday night was waiting in the car outside Walmart, but fled the scene when she saw police. Police say she eventually returned, telling them she had taken Jones to Walgreens on Fremont prior to stopping at Walmart. Police took into evidence 20 tablets of cold pills purchased at Walgreens.

Police later released the driver, but police charged Jones with Possession of Meth Precursors and Possession of Meth Precursors with the Intent to Manufacture.

Jones is awaiting a court appearance.
