Police: Mother In Custody In Deaths Of 2 Children
EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) -- Police say an East St. Louis woman suspected in the shotgun deaths of her two youngest children was arrested in Missouri after allegedly hitting three pedestrians with her car.

Investigators haven't publicly identified the woman arrested Wednesday night in St. Louis after East St. Louis police found the bodies of a 4-year-old girl and 5-year-old boy in the family's apartment.

Illinois State Police Capt. James Morrisey says investigators have interviewed the woman and ``have an understanding'' of why the shootings happened. But he wouldn't elaborate.

No charges have been filed.

Relatives of the woman say she'd recently been prescribed medication to treat depression or a mental illness.

The woman's 8-year-old son fled the apartment unharmed.

Authorities say the pedestrians' injuries weren't life-threatening.
