Is Water Line Insurance in Galesburg Necessary?
Homeserve Water Line Insurance is testing its waters in Galesburg.

However the city already offers routine water line maintenance for its residential customers.

Galesburg Public Information Officer Sue Davidson says she is unclear of Homeserve's motive considering the city's no-cost coverage.

"It's not that Galesburg offers a policy, Galesburg covers certain points on that water line," Davidson says. "They cover things up to a certain physcial point where the property lines would go from public to private. There are certain things that we cover because it's our responsibility, there are certain things a residential water user would cover because it's on their private property."

The Homeserve water line insurance policy will offer emergency repairs up to six-thousand dollars per year, with a one year guarantee.

Davidson says many of the company's perks are already covered for residential water service users in Galesburg.
