Court Appearance in Jail Assault Incident
A Chicago-area man who's been in prison since 1976 has made a court appearance in connection to an assault at possibly the Henry Hill Correctional Center.

59-year old Robert Gorham made an initial appearance in Knox County Court Wednesday. He was charged last week by a grand jury with a Class-X felony count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault.

He was being charged in connection to an incident at the prison January 10th where he allegedly displayed a sharp metal object while committing a sexual act on another jail inmate.

A judge appointed attorney Kim Norton as a public defender, and scheduled a first appearance for Monday morning.

Knox County Sheriff David Clague clarified Friday that the incident did not happen at the Knox County Jail.

Gorham is serving a 200 year prison sentence for a murder he is alleged to have committed in Cook County.

He's currently being held in the Menard Correctional Center. A judge set bond at $50,000 on the assault charge, but he won't be able to leave custody because of the prison sentence.
