An Apology Issued by the Galesburg Public Library
Thursday's Board of Trustees meeting at the Galesburg Public Library was called into order in an out of the ordinary like fashion.

The board had failed to inform the public of a meeting announcing the hiring of Harriet Zipfel as the library's new director.

Yesterday Board President Martin Reichel issued a public apology...

"On behalf of the board I'd like to issue a formal apology to the media and the public for the board's failure to comply with the open meetings act when we hired the new director," Reichel says. "It was an inadvertent oversight, we did not do that deliberately. We want to make sure that does't happen again."

The "illegal" meeting has triggered a response from Reichel suggesting the board reviews compliancy specifics to the open meetings act next time the board comes together.

Zipfel will begin her library director duties on August 29th.
