Local Runners Support Saint Jude
A group of local runners are once again doing their part to help a children's hospital and its local affiliate.

The annual Saint Jude Telethon is being broadcast Saturday night on Peoria television station W-E-E-K. Runners will be heading to Peoria from various points like Chicago and Memphis, all raising money for Saint Jude.

But one of the oldest runs is the one from Galesburg to Peoria. Heather Kniker tells WGIL she runs for her four-year-old niece who was treated by Saint Jude.

"She was diagnosed with AML-M7 (acute megakaryoblastic leukemia), when she was about 8 months old," she says. "She ended up down in Memphis, being treated there, had to stay several months. Now she is in remission, and goes back for periodic checks, had to go back in May and got an NED, which is "no evidence for disease," so she is doing really well."

There are also local runners who are making both the Chicago to Peoria and the Memphis to Peoria runners that have been braving the heat for the last few days.

The Galesburg to Peoria run steps off from the city parking lot across from the WGIL studios around six o'clock Saturday morning.
