New Home for Homeless Veterans to be Dedicated
FIRST REPORTED 3pm 8/9/11 Some local residents have worked to open a home for veterans that need a place to live, and there's a chance for the public to help support the home this week.

Bob Spears with the First Church of the Nazarene has opened up a shelter for homeless veterans, and a gospel concert at the church will help raise money for the home.

Spears tells the WGIL Morning News the home in question became available thanks to a change in church leadership.

"The home was remodeled a few months ago for our youth pastor, [who] has now since moved to Peoria to an Associate Pastor in a First Church there," Spears said. "The house had sat empty for a few months. [The church] pastor is on [the shelter's] board, and we were looking for a piece of property to utilize here in Galesburg."

But Spears says that fell through, at which time the pastor offered up the empty home.

The dedication of the Defenders of Freedom Veterans Home will he held as part of the concert Friday evening at 5:30 at the First Church of the Nazarene in Galesburg. The concert is free, but a free will offering will be taken up for the home.
