Alternate Items for Steele School Discussed
The committee overseeing the Galesburg School District's Master Facilities Plan would still like to see some further improvements made at one school if the budget allows for it.

District-205 Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations Guy Cahill says committee members have been asked to prioritize what alternates should be important if things like contingency money isn't used on other things at Steele Elementary School.

And Cahill tells WGIL skylights still remains number one.

"It really is part and parcel to the broader plan of the Master Facilities Committee's work dating some two years earlier," Cahill said. "It was unfortunate that it could not have been included in the base bid package."

Cahill says he's optimistic given how construction at Lombard Middle School has gone, that there will be money to include skylights and some alternates at Steele.

The District-205 Board Monday will be asked to approve construction drawings for the Steele renovations, so bid packages can be developed and sent out.

Construction could begin in October.
