Knox County United Way Fundraising Underway
The Knox County United Way, after a summer full of activities that will, for them, culminate this weekend, is now getting back into the swing of fundraising.

The United Way is in the midst of its annual "Pacesetter" campaign -- where United Way officials and representatives of one of their partner agencies, go around to local businesses talking to managers and employees in hopes of getting them to give.

$360,000 was the goal last year, and while that may seem like a lot of money, United Way Executive Director Ann Tucker tells the WGIL Evening News it's also hard to give back out.

"It does not go very far at all," Tucker said. "It's great to meet the goal, it's better than coming up short. However, in reality, we are still coming up way short. When applications are submitted from the partner agencies for their request for funding for the following years, [they] far, far exceed what we're able to raise."

In fact, Tucker says in the last year, the over two-dozen partner agencies and nearly three-dozen programs they host asked for around $700,000 worth of money.

Many of the agencies have been hit hard with cuts to their funding from the state of Illinois.
