Lawmaker Not Optimistic About Pension Session
Knox County's representative in the Illinois House says he almost doesn't understand why a special session has been called for Friday.

"We have no bill in front of that we're definitely going to have a vote on. There's just 'well, maybe this, maybe that, maybe another amendment.' Nothing definite," said State Representative Don Moffitt, talking about the possibility of pension reform being called for a vote Friday.

The Gilson Republican tells WGIL he wishes something concrete in regards to pension reform were being considered Friday, because as of right now, there isn't.

"These need to be well-thought-out, and discussed, and lots of input from all of the stakeholders to think that there could be any progress on solving any of these issues," Moffitt said.

Moffitt says Governor Pat Quinn should have met with top lawmakers more than once on pension reform before a special session was called.

He says he agrees that some type of reform does need to happen, though.

The Illinois House will, regardless, take a vote on whether to expel State Representative Derek Smith of Chicago, amid bribery allegations.
