Man Accused of Burglaries Denied Bond Reduction
A Galesburg man accused of several break-ins last month has pleaded not guilty, and will not have his bond reduced.

22-year old Michael Watkins was in Knox County Circuit Court earlier this week, when a judge denied his request to have his $50,000 bond lowered.

Watkins and 21-year old George Woods were arrested in late-July, and both face charges of Burglary, Possession of Burglary Tools, and theft. The two were allegedly caught near the Holiday Inn Express on East Main Street with a hammer and screw drivers in their possession, among other things.

Authorities later linked the two to a suspected break-in at the Purple Hanger Resale shop downtown. They are accused of breaking a window and stealing $20 out of a donation vase.

Watkins pleaded not guilty and asked for a trial by jury during the hearing. A pre-trial conference was scheduled for September fourth.

Woods, meanwhile, waived his right to a preliminary hearing this week and will be arraigned August 29th. He also wants his $50,000 bond reduced.
