State Senator Addresses Health Issue
The State Senator who represents Warren County and is about to include part of Galesburg in his district is taking a temporary medical leave.

In a statement issued yesterday, Rushville Democratic State Senator John Sullivan says a cancer he was treated for four years ago called liposarcoma, and it recently returned.

Sullivan describes it as rare but treatable, but he'll be having surgery to have it removed this week.

Liposarcoma is a type of cancer based in fat cells and can be found in legs of thighs, but possibly in other organs as well.

Sullivan says he will take likely two to three weeks off to recover once he's treated.

Sullivan is currently running to retain his seat in the Illinois Senate against Quincy-area Republican Randy Frese, and sparred this week over allegedly negative campaign ads.

Sullivan says his office staff in Quincy, Rushville, and Springfield will take care of legislative issues, but he's also reached out to State Senator Jil Tracy, and State Representative Norine Hammond to help as well.
