Accused Graffiti Artist Pleads Not Guilty
A Galesburg man accused of tagging over twenty different city locations with graffiti has pleaded not guilty to charges filed against him.

According to Knox County Circuit Court records, 25-year-old Michael Brackett pled not guilty Tuesday to two counts of Criminal Damage to Property. One charge is a Class-Four Felony, the other a misdemeanor. Brackett requested a jury trial through Public Defender Karl Johnson.

Brackett and 25-year-old Joseph Brown were arrested in May near the South Street underpass when witnesses reported the two spray painting the structure's walls. At the time of their arrest, police say both men had fresh paint on their hands and cans of spray paint in their backpacks.

Court documents for Brown are non-existent. It's unclear if charges against him were dropped. Prosecutors, however, do link twenty-one other incidents of graffiti to Brackett.

Brackett is out of jail on bond. He's scheduled to next appear in court September fourth at 9am for a Pre-Trial Conference.
