Galesburg-Based Trooper Honored by State Police
A Galesburg resident employed as an Illinois State Trooper has been honored for his work.

Trooper Marvin Wagle was among those honored at the State Police's annual Awards Ceremony in the Springfield area Wednesday. He was named Officer of the Year.

Wagle -- a trooper for the last four years -- was praised for his professionalism, and for the number of arrests he's made for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.

Wagle ranked first in DUI and other alcohol-related arrests last year in District Seven based in East Moline, which covers Knox, Rock Island, Mercer, and Henry Counties, but says there's really no secret to how he's able to bust so many allegedly drunk drivers.

"I work midnights, where most of the impaired drivers are out," Wagle said. "So, that's to my benefit."

Wagle says he's simply just doing his job.

"There's no quota. I just enjoy doing it, keeping impaired drivers off the road, and keeping the motoring public safe," said Wagle.

But Wagle says it's a team effort, because any opportunity to take a drunk or impaired driver off the roads prevents an accident and any possible fatality.

The military veteran says he became a trooper because it parallels with his military experience. He received a new SUV to use as his patrol vehicle for the next year.
