Area Looks Good in Labor Survey
A survey supported in part by the City of Galesburg and other groups shows that the region has a pretty good workforce, though not perfect.

The city announced Tuesday that the first Western Illinois Regional Quality of Labor Survey indicates that the region's workforce is a 3.85 out of 5, with five being high.

The survey was done by the city, the Galesburg Regional Economic Development Association, the Workforce Investment Board of Western Illinois, and Ameren.

The survey is based on how employers perceive the quality of the workforce in the region, their skills, their availablility, and cost.

In a prepared statement, City Global Strategies Director Gary Camarano says he's pleased with the results, as compared to other regions. He says the Galesburg area is in a very competitive position.

GREDA president Tom Schmidt says among other things, it confirms that some of the things the region has done already are working, like adding a welding program at Carl Sandburg College.

The full results of the survey, however, have yet to be released.

Those are expected to be released to survey respondents by the end of the month.
