Unemployment Keeps Inching Upward
Unemployment appears to continue to moving up in the area, and is close to figures of a year ago.

Numbers provided Thursday by the Illinois Department of Employment Security indicate that the Knox County unemployment rate for July sits at 8.6% -- up three-tenths from the month before.

In Galesburg, the rate went up two tenths to 9.1%.

Combine that with a Warren County jobless average that went up three-tenths to 8.7%, that puts the state's Galesburg-area unemployment average at 8.6%.

The figures are all only several tenths of a point lower than this time last year, and all figures are not seasonally-adjusted.

Most other unemployment rates across the area went up as well. Henry County's only went up a tenth to 7.6%. McDonough County's also only went up a tenth to 9.5%.

Illinois Department of Employment Security head Jay Rowell said in a statement that the numbers, including an increase in the state unemployment rate, indicate that the economic recovery is uneven.
