Area Firefighters Come to Galesburg to Train
The City of Galesburg has once again hosted firefighters from around the area for training they may not otherwise get.

The Western Illinois Firefighters Association held its fall fire school Saturday at the Galesburg Fire Department's Hawthorne Center Training site.

Galesburg Fire Captain Steve Selliers was in charge of the school and one of the instructors, and tells WGIL the school is especially important for newer firefighters.

"We can get the new guys trained, we can get the guys that maybe don't get a lot of interior time especially on the hands on firefighting to get time with the tools and in a heat and smoke environment, where it is a controlled environment with safety personal in place so that they can learn the new skills or practice the older skills with a margin of safety"

The firefighters learned about everything from some of the basics, to preserving and collecting evidence at a crime scene, to agricultural rescues.

Some 130 firefighters representing a dozen area fire departments took part.
