Major Road Closure Coming Soon
A bit of a traffic headace might ensue but for a good reason, but a city official says not to worry, it's not going to happen yet.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe continues efforts to construct a third main line in town as part of its expansion efforts in Galesburg.

But City Engineer Wayne Carl tells the WGIL Morning News the work might soon affect the downtown -- or at least getting to it -- quite a bit.

"We have a closure coming up on East Main Street here in October. That will be for two weeks while they put that third track across East Main Street," Carl said. "During that time, local traffic will take Allens Avenue to Mulberry, over to Seminary, then back up to Main. Truck traffic is going to be detoured out on the interstate [I-74] to [U.S.] 34, to [U.S.] 150."

Carl says that will be the first part of October, then crossing surfaces along the Chillicothe Subdivision later that month, closing several crossings at a time.

That will be done before the city goes forward with any more closures due to the city's proposed Quiet Zone efforts.
