WGIL Interview: Restaurant Owner Buys Building
The owner of the Landmark in downtown Galesburg, is now a landlord.

Phil Dickinson recently purchased the building his restaurant is in on Seminary Street, along with the two next to it, Kohl's Diamond Gallery and Hair Et Cetera, as Seminary Street patriarch Jay Matson looks to retire.

That means Dickinson is now taking in rent as well as sales at his restaurant, and tells WGIL that's something he's been wanting to do for awhile.

"I had been sort of lobbying for this opportunity for quite a while," Dickinson said. "But, as they say, be careful what you wish for; you just may get it. I see this more as a kind of continuation of a concept, rather than 'okay, it's different.' Literally on Seminary Street, nothing has changed. Some ownership is different. But, the same merchants are doing what they do every day."

Dickinson says purchasing his building allows him to ultimately control his business' own destiny, versus someone else doing that for him.

Dickinson's talk about buying his building comes on the heels of Bill and Brenda Egenlauf, owners of Chez Willy's, talking last week about doing the same, after getting approval through a revolving loan from the City of Galesburg to do so.
