Knoxville to Seek Loan Money to Rehab Water Well
A part of the City of Knoxville's water system that was going to get a new paint job is instead going to be completely new.

The Knoxville City Council voted Monday night to seek a half-million dollars in new loan money from the Illinois EPA to purchase a new ground water storage tank to replace one that city engineer Kevan Cooper says has deteriorated.

Cooper told aldermen the city will have to get a tank bigger than anticipated.

"We had originally sized it at 125,000 gallons. That would meet your minimum storage requirements according to the EPA, and according to the City of Galesburg, which also has a storage requirement imposed on Knoxville since they supply your water," Cooper said. "The consensus of the group after our meeting was, if we're going to put up a new tank, we're going to put up a 200,000 gallon tank instead of 125,000 gallons."

Cooler says that's would allow more storage volume for fire protection, in addition to having room for potential city growth.

Aldermen also approved seeking formal bids for the project.
