No Policy Yet on Naming Rights for a New Library
The Galesburg Public Library board appreciates that there are people who want to donate to the library, a policy on what they want to donate for has yet to be decided.

The Library board's construction committee came to the conclusion that they can't determine a policy on naming rights just yet, until a number of other things are figured out.

Construction Committee chair Mike Kroll tells WGIL just what the new library would look like is one of them.

"In trying to make the policy fair to everyone we really want to have the names and the amounts donated for different rooms proportional to the importance in the building. In order to do so that requires us to have a better idea of exactly which rooms will be in the building and how big they will be so we can use a formula based on roughly on square footage and cost per square foot, exactly how much you will need to donate to name that section of the building."

The Library board will vote Thursday on whether or not to send out Requests for Qualifications for potential architects, with a design competition following interviews, and the possible final selection as late as January.

In the meantime, Kroll says he knows one thing for sure: Anyone willing to donate 10 million dollars will get their name put on the front of the library.

That said, he believes the naming rights possible shouldn't necessarily be about just the very rich being able to give.
