Teen Leads Deputies on Chase, Deputy on Administrative Leave
FIRST REPORTED 3:00pm 8/3/12 A Washington, Illinois man is jailed in Knox County on charges he had a stolen car and gave chase to police, while one of the arresting officers is on paid leave pending an investigation.

The Knox County Sheriffs Department says the incident started just before 12:30am Friday, when deputies were informed that police were chasing a stolen vehicle on Interstate 74 in Peoria County, entering Knox County, at speeds over 100 miles per hour.

The vehicle approached the Knoxville exit which was blocked, but officials say the vehicle, driven by 17-year old Isaiah Royer, backed up the ramp, at which time a deputy on foot approached the vehicle and opened fire.

The vehicle eventually ended up on County Highway 9 into east Galesburg, where it ended up on some Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks and eventually stopped.

Royer was arrested and is charged with Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Trespassing on Railroad Right of Way, Having No Valid Drivers License, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, and Disregarding a Stop Sign.

Court appearances are pending, and officials say other charges may be filed.

The Sheriffs Department says according to their policy, the deputy who fired his gun is on paid administrative leave pending investigations, which are being handled by the sheriffs department and the Illinois State Police Integrity Task Force, based in the Quad Cities.
