City Provides Report on Fires
The Galesburg Fire Department has determined a cause of a fire that occurred earlier this week, heavily damaging a building a local business was using.

As part of a much larger report detailing fires the city has had since April's fire at the People's Do-It Center, the city says the fire at Spee Dee Delivery Service on Log City Trail early Tuesday started in the engine compartment of one of the firm's delivery vans.

Fire officials say it was the oldest van in the fleet, and had been used right before fire broke out.

The structure and the remaining fleet including much newer vehicles, was deemed a total loss.

An unrelated fire several hours later at a North Cherry Street home likely started in an attic fan.

Fire officials in the report still have not determined a cause of the blaze at the former Hawkinson Manufacturing back in June, despite numerous interviews and an extensive investigation.

A blaze in August at the Wonder Bread/Hostess facility on Grand Avenue also remains undetermined, as operations including the outlet store have moved several blocks down the road.

Fire officials say in all the commercial fires they've dealt with this summer, there was one thing consistent: a lack of fire sprinklers.
