Medical Company Opens up New Factory in Canton
A medical device manufacturer founded by a native of Canton has officially opened up a second plant in the Fulton County community.

Cook Medical Group formally cut the ribbon today on the Cook Polymer plant, construction on which started a little more than a year ago, and located next to the already open Cook Medical Group plant there.

Cook Medical Group president Kem Hawkins says it's a great day for Canton and for Cook.

"We're proud of being able to, I think have an embraced community. It's a great partnership that we have seen. This teflon facility, manufacturing facility, is important to us because it gives us the opportunity to again take control of our own destiny with regards to a very very important product line."

The Cook polymer plant will make tubing used in many of the medical devices Cook medical makes.

Democratic Senator Dick Durbin and Republican Bobby Schilling both were at the opening of the plant employing 60 people, located roughly at the site of the former International Harvester plant which shut down 30 years ago.

Cook, named for late founder Bill Cook, has also invested in the downtown Canton area through a boutique hotel and other renovations.
