| More Improvements Coming to Brentwood and Prarieland |
The Knox County Housing Authority is again gearing up for improvements for two Galesburg affordable housing programs.
Following completed upgrades through a weatherization contract and energy-efficient grant, attention is now turning to windows and trees at Brentwood Manor and Prarieland Townhouse Apartments.
Tuesday, the Board of Commissioners signed off on a Quad Cities firm to trim the trees at both sites. Commissioner Paul Stewart favored including the additional services attached to the $9,315 bid over making a separate hire for the work.
"You want somebody that knows what they're doing," Stewart said. Commissioner Dale Parsons responded, "Amen."
"And won't butcher the trees," said Stewart.
The Commissioners also agreed to replace fifteen windows at Brentwood for a price around $21,000-dollars.
"These are the tempered glass-- the big, I don't know (how) big exactly-- I would hope all of you would know, the stairwells at Brentwood," she said to the Commissioners. "There's that great, big glass area. That's what these windows will be, tempered glass (ones)."

The approved motion stipulates that Knox Glass install the windows before the current fiscal year ends in September.
Payments to Bimbo for equipment in their installation of tank-less water heaters at Moon Towers, and to Hein Construction for exterior concrete work at Whispering Hollow and Blue Bell Tower were approved as well Tuesday.
Hulick added that HUD-- the U-S Department of Housing and Urban Development-- is requesting all housing authority properties be at 100-percent capacity very soon. They are currently at 98-percent. |
