Galesburg Man Facing Charges for Cab Driver Robbery
A local man is in custody after allegedly robbing a city cab driver early Thursday morning.

Galesburg police say they were notified around 12:30 a-m that the driver was robbed at gunpoint after he went to the Mobil Mart on West Main Street to pick up a fare and dropped the man off at an apartment complex on North Cherry Street. A police spokesman says the man riding in the cab implied he had a weapon and took a small amount of money from the cab driver. The suspect, identified as 21-year old Michael Flannigan of Galesburg, then reportedly fled.

Police later caught up with Flannigan in the 100 block of West Losey Street and arrested him on preliminary charges of armed robbery, possession of a look-alike substance with intent to deliver, and resisting police. The police spokesman says officers tased Flannigan after he refused to follow orders.

Authorities say Flannigan did not have a gun on him when he was arrested, but instead, was in possession of a crowbar.

No-one was hurt, and Flannigan was taken to the Knox County Jail to be held pending a court appearance.
