Add Health Department to Those Unhappy With Gov's Budget Vetoes
The administrator of the Knox County Health Department is essentially fed up with the Governor and his budget vetoes.

Greg Chance told the Knox County Board of Health Thursday night that his department is losing $53,000 in its Local Health Protection Grant in the coming fiscal year, in order to essentially provide services that he says the state mandates they provide, and he says that's on top of the fact that the grant has never been fully funded to begin with.

Chance says as is the case with schools, historic sites, community colleges, and other entities that have felt the wrath of the Governor's veto pen, a message needs to be sent to Springfield. "At some point in time, not only the Knox County Board of Health but all Boards of Health have to say 'enough is enough,'" Chance said. "Fortunately, we've always been willing to continue to provide these essential services at a high professtional value."

Chance says the Knox County Health Department may have to consider, at some point in the future, doing simply the bare minimum, instead of what he says is going above and beyond the call, until the state decides to fund local health departments at the level they're supposed to be.

He says as it stands right now, local taxpayers are continuing to pay more than their fair share.
