Thousands of Unemployment Checks Late
The state is reporting that thousands of Illinois residents on unemployment have not yet received their checks that were sent out earlier this month.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the unemployment checks are dated September 3rd, and officials blame an error by the U-S Postal Service.

IDES Director Maureen O'Donnell says there are two options: simply wait for the checks, or beneficiaries can go to their local unemployment office and request a replacement check.

Officials say approximately 36-hundred checks are experiencing postal delivery delays in zip codes that include Galesburg.

O'Donnell says the postal service says it received the original checks, but has indicated it doesn't know where they are or when they were delivered to recipients.

IDES says on November 1st the agency will start making ALL unemployment payments to debit cards or by direct deposit.
