GREDA Goes to Washington for FTZ Application
Officials with the Galesburg Regional Economic Development Association are optimistic about their chances of getting Logistics Park Galesburg included in an already-established Foreign Trade Zone.

GREDA President Greg Mangieri and Vice President Linda Utsinger travelled to Washington, D.C.Monday to meet with a number of people in regards to their request that the new Logistics Park be a part of a foreign trade zone in Peoria, including officials on the Foreign Trade Zone Board, and staff for members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation, including Congressmen Phil Hare, Ray LaHood, and Tim Johnson, along with staff for Senators Dick Durbin and Barack Obama.

Utsinger tells WGIL the support is definitely there for GREDA's application. "We have had letters of support for over a year, from the elected officials (mentioned above) as well as our local Senator (State Sen. Dale Risinger) and Representative (State Rep. Don Moffitt)," Utsinger said. "This was just to kind of reconfirm and give them a little bit more information. We did have a complete document that they were presented with, that outlined the entire...everything we needed to have included."

The Federal Trade Commission says FTZ's allow for special customs procedures for manufacturers involved in specific trade activities.

Utsinger says it could take another eight months for the application to be approved.
