Journalism Student Takes Lincoln-Inspired Trip
A journalism student from the University of Southern Indiana is recreating Abraham Lincoln's 1828 flatboat trip down the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers .

Casey McCoy launched the 60-foot long, 25 ton flatboat earlier this month. McCoy, who shares the same height and birthday as Lincoln , is portraying a "young" Lincoln along the way.

He and his crew are making 21 stops at towns and cities of historical significance along the way. At each stop, McCoy transforms into a tall, lean, young Lincoln and talks with locals about the history of the 16th president when he was younger.

The trip is scheduled to wrap up in early October.

Lincoln was hired to deliver goods to a shop in New Orleans . While there he witnessed his first slave auction, which McCoy says "sparked the fire" for Lincoln's anti-slavery thoughts and actions as president.
