IDOT Urging Motorists and Farmers to Share the Road
The Illinois Department of Transportation is urging motorists to share the road with tractors and other farm equipment.

State officials say with the harvest season underway, drivers on rural roads need to be aware of farmers operating slower moving vehicles. IDOT Secretary Milt Sees says over the past 7 years, there have been over 1,700 crashes involving farm equipment on Illinois roads, resulting in 37 deaths and more than 500 injuries.

"What we're asking motorists to do is be aware that it is harvest season, and be on the lookout for slow moving vehicles like tractors and combines and corn pickers whenever they're out traveling the highways," Sees said.

IDOT officials also warn that this year's late planting season means less harvest time for Illinois farmers, so there will be more agricultural vehicles on the state's roads late into the night.
