Local Man Sentenced in Sex Abuse Case

35-year old Daniel Wheeler pleaded guilty Thursday morning in Knox County Circuit Court to Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse. Along with the 30 months of probation Wheeler must serve, Judge Steven Bordner credited him with 160 days already served in the Knox County Jail. Wheeler was also ordered to have no contact with the victim or anyone else under the age of 18.

The abuse charge Wheeler pleaded guilty to alleges he had sexual contact with a 12 year old girl related to him last March in his residence at the Century Estates Mobile Home Park. He's accused of fondling the young girl while the two were alone in his home.

Wheeler was originally charged with Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child, a Class X felony, and two additional felony counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse. Wheeler could have been sentenced to as long as 7 years in prison on the sex abuse charge he pleaded guilty to.

Prosecutors said in court the only previous blemish on Wheeler's criminal record is a battery conviction in 1997.
