| Pacheco Appointed to CSC Board of Trustees |
Jack Ball, of Knoxville, resigned from the Carl Sandburg College Board of Trustees effective Sept. 17, 2008, due to a recent increase in his professional work load resulting in not being able to fully serve in his role as trustee. Gayla Pacheco, of Galesburg, was appointed with a unanimous vote to fill the vacancy effective immediately until the time of the consolidated election April 7, 2009. Ball was elected to the board in 2005.
Pacheco is a former trustee from 1999-2005. During her term as trustee she served as secretary, vice chairperson and chairperson for the board. She is currently serving as the vice president of the CSC Foundation Board and will continue in that capacity.
Pacheco is the employment opportunity manager for the Army Sustainment Command in Rock Island, Ill. She has an associate of arts degree in sociology from Carl Sandburg College, a bachelor of arts degree from Western Illinois University and a master of science in education/training and development from Drake University. Additionally she is a member and has served as president of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and was named the State of Illinois Woman of the Year in 1990. She has also served on the Leadership Greater Galesburg board.
"I want to convey my congratulations to Gayla on this appointment. I am genuinely excited about her continued involvement in the life of the college and believe this is a very positive development on behalf of our students, our employees and our district residents," said Tom Schmidt, president, Carl Sandburg College.
