Warren County Jail Inmate Flees, Caught Near Courthouse
A Warren County Jail inmate being escorted to court last Thursday is facing an additional charge after he fled, but was chased down a short time later not far from the courthouse in Monmouth.

Authorities say a correctional officer was taking 17-year old Jeffery Jones of Monmouth and two other inmates from the jail to the courthouse for appearances before a judge around 10:15 a-m when Jones, who was cuffed, took off running. The correctional officer escorting Jones handed off the two other inmates he was taking to the courthouse to another officer, and took off after Jones.

Sheriff Martin Edwards says Jones was apprehended in the 200 block of North 1st Street near Archer Avenue. That's about three blocks from the courthouse complex.

Jones was on his way to court to appear on a residential burglary charge. Now he's charged with felony escape as well, and his bond is set at $50,000.
