House Members React to Newest Special Session
Once again, Illinois lawmakers will be returning to Springfield. But not all of them. The House is back in session Wednesday and Thursday of next week to look over another plan to lease the state lottery and use the proceeds to pay for road and building construction.

The Senate currently has no session days scheduled until the November veto session. House Minority Leader Tom Cross (R-Oswego) says he doubts the controlling House Democrats' motives reach much beyond trying to look good for the election. He points out Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago) has expressed no interest in talking to other leaders about this plan.

It's possible the House will also review the Governor's amendatory vetoes, including his revision of an ethics bill. Cross won't criticize Gov Rod Blagojevich for that: "The way things have been going in this state the last six years, we can't be strong enough on ethics. This administration has crossed the line, in my opinion, and the Democrats have as well, in many cases. I will vote in whatever way it takes to implement these changes," whether House Democrats want a vote to accept the vetoes or file new bills.
